Maria B Fashion Designer From Lahore
Fashion designer, Maria Belal, known as Maria B graduated from PSFD (Pakistan School of Fashion Design), affiliated with La Chambre Syndicale de Parissiene (Paris). She graduated with honors securing the top position in all four years of studies.
After studying the strict Parisienne “Haute Couture” and Prêt-a-Porter courses she created MARIA.B DESIGNS (PVT) LTD, in 1999, Pakistan’s first professional fashion house. manufacturer and retailer of women’s fashion garments in Pakistan, with a large clientele in the US and Europe.
In a short span of ten years, MARIA.B has created a fashion revolution with her exquisite designing and chic image which shows in all her lines from Casuals, lawn, Evening-Wear, Westerns to Bridals.
MARIAB is also working on an export oriented strategy, thus our quality and standards are well maintained under the guidance of trained fashion designers. For that purpose product lines have been displayed in fashion events all over the world.
Her label is known for its cotton shalwar Kameez and embroidered evening wear, all meticulously cut and stitched into chic and modern styles.
Maria B, in her student days participated for the first time in ‘Forcea’, a competition in Belgium for young designers and walked away with the “Les Etoiles De La Mode” Award. While recalling her thoughts on the event she said, “I had designed some modern, futuristic pieces, but I had used traditional embroideries and indigenous materials. I didn’t expect much, but I did try my best – after all, we were the first batch from Pakistan to participate in this event”
The outfits she has selected – from a cotton sleeveless salwar kameez to black net culottes to a chiffon sari – embody her look for the modern Pakistani woman in the late 90s.
She learnt that there was tremendous scope for Pakistani fabrics in the international market and was determined to make her mark globally. As she says with confidence, “I’m a staunch patriot – I want to take Pakistan’s name in the international fashion scene. I want to show people around the world what a great heritage we have. That really is the core philosophy of my business. We want to go into the international market and prove ourselves as a Pakistani brand name.”
Maria B had a dream to make Pakistan’s name in the international fashion scene and she truly achieved that.
Maria’s main goal is to export her dresses abroad – “I want to send haute-couture items such as evening wear, bridal wear etc. to UK/Europe, and then eventually to the US/Canada, Singapore and Australia.” She remains undaunted by the global competition and says “you have to aim high – and I do want to get to New York, Milan and Paris one day.”
